More than 300 days of sun per year at this latitude is a selling point for the Algarve. It is also a challenge for every surface inside a glass-fronted villa. Untreated south-facing windows allow heat to build inside rooms faster than air conditioning can remove it. Fabrics fade. Flooring bleaches. Artwork degrades. Light-coloured furniture yellows.
Solar control film changes the energy balance of a window without darkening the room noticeably. It reflects a portion of infrared radiation, cuts UV transmission significantly, and reduces glare — the type that makes a sea-view room unusable at certain times of day without drawing the blinds. The result is a room that stays cooler, requires less cooling energy to maintain comfort, and protects everything behind the glass from UV-driven degradation.
UV-only film is the right choice where heat is not the issue but UV exposure is: north-facing glass that catches low-angle winter sun, or windows adjacent to valuable furnishings or artworks.

The same team that films villas also tints cars. JustCars applies automotive window tint using the same quality solar and UV films — cut, heat-shaped and fitted to the curved glass of a car rather than a flat window.
The reasons are the same three: heat, UV and privacy. A car parked outdoors in the Algarve becomes an oven, and its interior ages under UV just as a villa's does — dashboards crack, leather fades, trim dries out. Solar tint cuts the heat load and the UV that drives that damage, keeps the cabin cooler on collection, and reduces glare for the driver. Privacy tint on the rear glass shades the cabin and what is left inside it.
We apply tint within Portuguese road-legal limits. The rear side windows and rear screen can take darker film; the windscreen and front side windows are legally restricted, so we advise honestly on what is allowed rather than fitting something that fails inspection. We confirm the legal shade for each glass before we cut anything.
Ground-floor glass in a villa presents a choice between privacy and natural light that window film resolves without either curtains or permanent frosting. Mirror or frosted film creates visual privacy from outside without eliminating natural light from within. It is reversible and does not require planning permission, which matters for rental properties and heritage-listed villas.
Anti-shatter safety film holds glass together after impact. On a coastal property with Atlantic storm exposure, or in a family villa with young children, it changes what happens when a window breaks — glass stays in the frame rather than shattering across the floor. Safety film also reduces the value of a window as a quick point of entry.
Decorative film — frosted panels, geometric patterns, colour gradients — can create visual separation in open-plan interiors or add character to plain glass partitions without building work.
JustCars applies clear protective film to furniture surfaces, countertop edges, glass tabletops, cabinet fronts and interior glass panels. The principle is the same as automotive PPF — a clear adhesive film that absorbs abrasion and impact so the surface underneath stays unmarked — but cut and sized for interior use.
On light-coloured furniture, clear film prevents the yellowing and surface wear that accumulates with rental-season use. On glass-top tables and cabinet fronts, it protects against scratching without changing the appearance. On stone countertop edges, it protects the most vulnerable part of the surface from chipping.

Solar control film is available in a range from lightly tinted to visually neutral. We show samples before committing. The view out is minimally affected; the glare and heat reduction are significant.
Most standard films can be applied to the inner surface of double glazing without issue. Certain high-heat-rejection films can increase thermal stress in some sealed units — we assess the glass type before recommending a film grade.
