A 'quick polish' is the most oversold product in detailing. A single hard pass with an aggressive compound will make almost any car look better for a month — while burning through clear coat that never comes back. Real paint correction is the opposite discipline: measure the lacquer with a gauge first, decide honestly how much correction the paint can afford, then work in stages under inspection light until the swirls, holograms and fine scratches are genuinely gone, not hidden by fillers.
That is why proper correction takes two to three days in our studio, not an afternoon. The Algarve makes the case harder: dark cars that live with beach sand, resort brush washes and calima dust carry exactly the fine circular damage that shows worst in low evening sun. Correcting it once, properly, and then protecting the result — with ceramic, or film on the strike zones — costs less over five years than re-polishing the same damage every season.
And sometimes the honest answer is no: if the gauge shows the previous owner's polisher already spent the reserve, we say so and offer the alternatives — RestorFX restoration or paint — instead of taking the job and the risk with your clear coat.
