Expert view
Original factory paint is an asset — on inspection, at resale, in how the panel ages. So my first question is never 'what will it cost to paint this' but 'does this need paint at all'. A door ding comes out by paintless dent repair with the factory finish intact. Oxidised, dull lacquer often restores chemically with RestorFX in our Loulé workshop. A deep scratch through the colour coat, corrosion, or a badly resprayed previous repair — that is real paint work, and then it should be done properly: colour-matched, blended into the neighbouring panels, finished under inspection light.
Honesty about the queue is part of the expertise. A full exterior respray usually waits two to three weeks before we can start — good paint work cannot be squeezed between two washes. Two or three panels move much faster, typically four to five days. If a shop promises you a full respray by Friday, ask what stage they are planning to skip.
One technical boundary worth knowing: freshly painted panels need roughly three weeks of curing before any film goes on top. We plan paint and PPF as one sequence, so the protection lands on paint that is ready for it.
