The bulk of quality paint protection films in the professional market come from a relatively small number of chemical manufacturers. Brand names are applied to film products at different grades — optical clarity, thickness, adhesive formulation, self-healing chemistry, and how cleanly the edge seals after wrapping.
The installer's process matters as much as the film brand. A premium film applied over poorly prepared paint, with poorly wrapped edges and no aftercare plan, performs worse than a good-grade film applied correctly. This is worth understanding before comparing brand specifications at face value.
Self-healing is a real and useful property of quality films: light surface marring — from wash brushes, sandy towels, or minor abrasion — recovers as the film returns to its original profile with heat. At Algarve temperatures, this happens passively on most days of the year. The activation threshold varies by film product; some require sustained direct sun, others respond to the ambient temperature on a warm afternoon.

The STEK DYNOshield (gloss) and DYNOmatte (satin/matte) lines are what we install. The films perform well in the Algarve climate. Self-healing activates at temperatures the Algarve reaches comfortably on most days, including outside peak summer. The optical clarity on the gloss film is high; the distortion that sometimes affects cheaper films is absent in properly applied STEK material.
STEK's warranty structure separates material warranty from workmanship warranty clearly. Material warranty covers film defects — delamination, yellowing, cracking from the film itself. Workmanship warranty covers the installation. Both require 3-monthly professional maintenance visits to remain valid. We explain this before installation, not on the warranty card afterwards.
XPEL is a US-origin PPF manufacturer and an established brand with professional installers worldwide. The Ultimate Plus (gloss) and Stealth (matte) lines are the direct equivalents of the STEK DYNOshield and DYNOmatte products. Both are quality-tier films from established manufacturers.
Warranty claims in the PPF industry deserve careful reading regardless of brand. Published figures of nine or ten years typically refer to the material warranty — not the workmanship warranty — and are conditional on 3-monthly professional maintenance from a certified installer. Workmanship coverage, its duration, and what it covers (edges lifting, bubbling from installation error) is separate and varies by installer. This applies across the industry, not to one brand. Ask any installer, before committing, exactly what their workmanship warranty covers, for how long, and what maintenance conditions it requires.
We chose STEK for its specific film characteristics, for the certification programme, and because working with one supply chain in depth produces better results than managing two in parallel. A skilled installer working with any quality-tier brand and executing the preparation correctly will give you a properly protected car.

Offering two competing brands in parallel splits product knowledge and complicates supply chain consistency. We chose depth over a broader menu.
