Diamond-Cut Wheel Refinishing in the Algarve

That machined bright face with the painted pockets is the hardest wheel finish to repair — which is why most local shops offer only a full repaint, and lathe-finish work usually travels to Lisbon and back. We handle it locally: standard wheel refinishing at €125 per wheel, diamond-cut restoration where the wheel's design and remaining material allow — €125 up to €250 per wheel, confirmed honestly after inspection, never promised blind.

Why diamond-cut is a different repair

A standard painted alloy refinishes predictably: welded if needed, primed, colour-matched, lacquered. A diamond-cut wheel adds a machined stage — the bright face is turned on a lathe to restore that factory two-tone crispness, then sealed under lacquer. That machining is also the catch: every re-cut removes aluminium the wheel never gets back, so each wheel only has a limited number of cuts in its life.

The other enemy is the white-worm corrosion that creeps under a diamond-cut's lacquer from the smallest chip — caught early it's a repair, caught late it's a repaint. We inspect the wheel before promising anything: what it is, how much material it has left, and whether re-cutting or repainting is the smarter end of its life.

“The lathe doesn't forgive: every re-cut takes metal the wheel never gets back. So I measure first, count what's left, and if the honest answer is a repaint, that's the answer you get — even when it's the cheaper one.”

Honest first step

Diamond-cut assessment

free with inspection

We read the wheel — finish type, material left, corrosion — and tell you whether re-cutting or repainting wins.

Final scope and price are confirmed at inspection — these are honest public anchors, not teaser rates.

Local, not a round trip

Ask around the Algarve and the usual answer for diamond-cut is a courier: the wheel ships to a lathe far away and the car waits on a jack or a space-saver. Keeping the work local changes the maths — the wheel is inspected, refinished and refitted through one workshop, ours in Loulé, with one team responsible for how it comes back.

One kerbed wheel doesn't sentence the other three: we repair the damaged wheel and match the finish to the rest — that's our problem, not yours. A full set only makes sense when the lacquer is failing everywhere or you want a new look, and we'll tell you which case yours is after seeing the wheels.

While the wheels are off

Wheels-off is the efficient moment for everything around them: brake calipers cleaned and painted, tar and baked-on brake dust properly removed from the barrels, and — if you want wash day halved forever — a ceramic coating on the faces.

Send a photo of the damaged wheel on WhatsApp and you'll get a first honest read the same day: what finish your wheel actually is, and which route we'd take before you drive anywhere.

Straight answers

Can diamond-cut wheels really be repaired in the Algarve?

Yes — locally, through our Loulé workshop, where most shops offer only a repaint and lathe work usually means a trip to Lisbon. Standard refinish is €125 per wheel; diamond-cut runs €125–250 per wheel where the design and remaining material allow, confirmed after inspection.

How many times can a diamond-cut wheel be re-cut?

A limited number — every cut removes aluminium the wheel never gets back. We measure what's left before promising anything; sometimes the honest answer is that a repaint is the smarter end of a diamond-cut's life.

Do I have to redo all four wheels if one is kerbed?

No — we repair the damaged wheel and colour-match it to the other three. A full set only makes sense when the lacquer is failing everywhere or you're changing the look.
