Um carro de segunda casa enfrenta meses de calima, sal e dejetos de aves sem intervenção — o revestimento cerâmico muda a forma como a contaminação adere à pintura e com que segurança se limpa no regresso.
Há um padrão que vemos repetidamente na JustCars. O proprietário chega de Londres, Amsterdão ou Munique, e o carro esteve parado na garagem da quinta ou num lugar de estacionamento perto da costa durante seis, oito, às vezes doze semanas. Os painéis horizontais — capô, tejadilho, tampa da mala — têm uma camada fina de depósitos de calima e matéria orgânica. Há manchas de água do sistema de rega no painel lateral traseiro, dejetos secos no caixilho do para-brisas e um ligeiro apagamento do brilho que não estava lá na última visita.
O instinto, depois de um voo longo e da condução desde Faro, é limpar depressa e continuar com a estadia. É exatamente quando a pintura mais sofre.
O revestimento cerâmico foi desenvolvido para um tipo diferente de proprietário — aquele que lava o carro duas vezes por semana, que usa argila e faz manutenção com regularidade, que mantém o revestimento em condições ótimas através de atenção constante. Esse não é o perfil de segunda casa. Mas o cerâmico ainda faz sentido para estes carros — possivelmente ainda mais sentido — se as expectativas forem definidas corretamente desde o início.
Eis o que muda realmente com um bom revestimento cerâmico num carro que passa grande parte do ano sem vigilância na costa do Algarve.
A contaminação solta-se mais facilmente. Uma superfície de pintura sem proteção ou apenas com cera deixa os minerais da calima e o filme de sal aderir de forma agressiva durante semanas de imobilização. Um cerâmico profissional à base de SiO2 — não um spray de consumo — reduz significativamente a resistência com que esses contaminantes se agarram à superfície. Quando o carro é finalmente lavado corretamente, o trabalho é mais rápido e o risco de arrastar partículas sobre a pintura no primeiro contacto é menor. Isto é especialmente importante depois de uma ausência prolongada, quando a acumulação pode ser considerável.
A corrosão química é atrasada, não eliminada. Dejetos de aves no verão do Algarve estão entre os agentes mais destrutivos com que trabalhamos. A combinação de ácido úrico com temperaturas ambiente elevadas faz com que a corrosão se possa iniciar em horas numa pintura desprotegida. O cerâmico oferece uma barreira mais dura e quimicamente resistente — ganha tempo, às vezes suficiente para o carro ser tratado antes de marcas permanentes se formarem. Não desfaz danos já causados, nem protege indefinidamente contra dejetos que ficam dias sem remoção, mas a janela antes de os danos se tornarem irreversíveis é significativamente mais larga do que numa pintura sem proteção.
A lavagem de regresso torna-se mais segura. Quando um proprietário chega depois de uma ausência prolongada, o carro precisa de uma lavagem de descontaminação completa, não de uma limpeza rápida. Com cerâmico, uma lavagem de contacto cuidadosa com champô de pH neutro remove a maior parte do que se acumulou durante o armazenamento. Sem revestimento, a mesma contaminação está mais aderida e a tentação de usar mais pressão ou um produto mais forte aumenta. Para um carro já ligeiramente desgastado pelos UV e por lavagens pouco frequentes, essa pressão adicional comporta risco real.
A condição antes do cerâmico não é negociável. Vemos regularmente carros de segunda casa a chegar com vários anos de lavagens em postos locais, oxidação nos painéis voltados a sul e depósitos de água antigos com início de mineralização. Estes problemas têm de ser tratados antes da aplicação do revestimento, ou a camada cerâmica simplesmente sela os defeitos no lugar. Uma passagem ligeira de correção de pintura antes da aplicação não é um serviço extra desnecessário — é a diferença entre proteger boa pintura e fixar os seus problemas. Por vezes recomendamos parar na correção e reequacionar o cerâmico depois de o proprietário ter uma rotina de manutenção mais regular.
A disciplina de cura é mais importante para um dono ausente. Um revestimento cerâmico profissional exige uma janela de cura controlada — tipicamente vários dias sem contacto com água, e várias semanas antes da primeira lavagem séria. Para um carro cujo dono voa de regresso ao norte da Europa no dia a seguir à entrega, isto requer planeamento antecipado. Damos a cada cliente indicações escritas sobre os prazos e recomendamos frequentemente deixar o carro connosco mais um ou dois dias depois da aplicação, para atravessar a fase inicial de cura num ambiente seco e ensombrado. O calor do verão algarvio pode acelerar algumas fases e complicar outras; não é o mesmo que revestir um carro numa garagem em Manchester em novembro.
O enquadramento mais honesto: o cerâmico não se gere sozinho e não substitui o cuidado humano. Para um carro de segunda casa que fica parado durante meses, é uma ferramenta para tornar o processo de recuperação mais seguro e menos propenso a criar novos danos, e para reduzir a agressividade com que o ambiente ataca a pintura durante os períodos em que ninguém está presente para intervir. Esse é um valor real e prático. Não é magia, e qualquer estúdio que o venda como proteção permanente que não exige mais nada não está a preparar o cliente para um bom resultado.
