O Algarve não atira as mesmas ameaças ao seu carro o ano inteiro. A época de calima, o Verão costeiro carregado de sal, o pólen, as primeiras chuvas de Outono — cada um pede algo diferente. Uma rotina de lavagem que segue as estações protege um carro muito melhor do que a mesma lavagem repetida sem distinção.
Um carro no Algarve enfrenta um conjunto diferente de ameaças em diferentes alturas do ano, e uma rotina de lavagem que ignora isso está a fazer a mesma coisa em condições que pedem coisas diferentes. A contaminação não é constante — chega em padrões sazonais, e a rotina mais eficaz é a que os antecipa. Não precisa de um calendário complicado, mas ajuda perceber o que cada parte do ano realmente faz a um carro.
A calima é a mais específica daqui. Quando o pó do Sara entra — muitas vezes na Primavera e novamente a intervalos ao longo do ano — cobre tudo com uma fina película mineral que é mais dura do que o verniz. A regra durante um episódio de calima é simples e importante: não limpe a seco um carro empoeirado, e não o passe à pressa por uma lavagem de contacto sem enxaguar. O pó tem de ser arrastado com água primeiro, porque arrastá-lo pela pintura é exactamente como se moem riscos em espiral. Uma semana de calima pede um pré-enxaguamento cuidadoso e uma lavagem suave, ou esperar até o pior assentar, em vez de uma passagem rápida.
O Verão é a estação do sal e do UV, e na costa é implacável. O aerossol de sal assenta continuamente, o sol está no seu mais intenso, e o carro coze entre lavagens. É a altura em que a consistência mais importa — lavagem regular para impedir que a película de sal fique e grave, e uma camada intacta de proteção na pintura para que o UV e o sal estejam a encontrar uma barreira sacrificial em vez de verniz nu. É também a estação em que os interiores e os acabamentos sofrem mais castigo do UV, por isso é a altura certa para manter em dia a condição das borrachas e a proteção dos plásticos. Um carro descurado ao longo de um Verão algarvio pode envelhecer visivelmente numa só estação.
As meias-estações trazem cada uma a sua coisa. A Primavera acrescenta pólen e resina de árvores, ambos pegajosos e ácidos o suficiente para marcar a pintura se ficarem ao longo de dias quentes, por isso um ritmo um pouco mais frequente ajuda. O Outono traz as primeiras chuvas depois do longo Verão seco, e essa primeira chuva mistura meses de película de estrada e pó acumulados numa lama abrasiva — lavar o carro antes e depois dessa transição impede que a sujidade acumulada seja esfregada para dentro da pintura. É também um ponto sensato para renovar a proteção à entrada dos meses mais frios e húmidos.
O Inverno no Algarve é ameno, mas é a estação das chuvas, e isso traz a ameaça que vive fora de vista: água parada e o sal já presente no carro a manter-se húmido por baixo. É a parte do ano em que a atenção ao fundo e às cavas das rodas vale o seu esforço, enxaguando o sal e a areia dos sítios que ficam molhados, em vez de os deixar quimicamente activos contra o metal durante meses. É menos sobre o brilho e mais sobre o que se passa onde não consegue ver.
O objectivo de pensar por estações não é lavar mais por lavar — é lavar de forma apropriada, para que cada parte do ano seja recebida com o cuidado de que realmente precisa. Um carro enxaguado com cuidado durante a calima, mantido consistentemente limpo e protegido através do sal e do UV do Verão, lavado ao longo da transição do Outono e enxaguado por baixo durante o Inverno húmido envelhece dramaticamente mais devagar do que um que recebe a mesma lavagem genérica o ano inteiro. Nada disto é exótico; é apenas ajustado às condições.
Se preferir não acompanhar tudo isso sozinho, é compreensível, e é o tipo de coisa que um acordo regular trata bem.
